To help bridge gaps within society, people need to include time for listening and reflection in their schedules
COURAGEOUS RI is thrilled to partner with Cortico's Local Voices Network (LVN), a digital platform that combines human listening and machine learning to foster deep listening (through facilitated small-group conversations) with the analytic power of modern AI (through tools for identifying patterns/themes across conversations).
Developed in collaboration with MIT’s Center for Constructive Communication, LVN tools help users see patterns across conversations, identify themes, and highlight voices around what matters most in the community. The platform supports the management of conversation archives, speech content analysis and visualization, and online/social posting of audio highlights.
Tools that make transparent the process of speaking and listening and the power of dialogue and discussion can help people advance critical thinking, empathy, and autonomy.
"The reason we need more listening is not to become like one another,” explains Katherine Cramer, a professor of political science and the Natalie C. Holton Chair of Letters & Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. “The reason we need more listening is that listening opens us up to what we can become together. It interrupts the process of ramming ahead, exactly like we have been doing: building lies, demonizing the Other.”
