Youth Media Contest
Judges
Submissions to CRI's Youth Media Contest will be evaluated by a team of expert judges that include media professionals, educators, entrepreneurs, and community organizers.
Eric Bilodeau
With 30+ years in cinema programming, Eric previously ran Providence's beloved Cable Car Cinema and now is the Artistic Director for the Providence Children's Film Festival.
Cristin Searles Bilodeau
Cristin Searles Bilodeau is the director of community engagement at Newport Art Museum. She is a museum professional who connects the public with multidisciplinary art, artists, and ideas to foster cultural understanding, empathy, creativity and civic engagement.
Dr. Marie Celestin
Marie Celestin, EdD, is a bestselling author, poet, speaker, and podcaster. As a self-care and stress release coach, she published "Planting Seeds," a journal designed to inspire personal growth and develop healthy habits. A true island soul, she finds joy in fresh mangoes, strong coffee, dresses with pockets, and plants.
Carlos Cruz
With a background in animation, video editing, photography, and computer science and a passion for making education accessible for all, Carlos is a secondary art teacher at Beacon Charter High School for the Arts in Woonsocket, RI.
Mark Cutler
Mark Cutler is a singer songwriter from RI and director of The Same Thing Project, a community songwriting workshop open to people from all walks of life and all abilities. Mark is also 2015 inductee in the RI Music Hall of Fame for his solo work as well as his bands, The Schemers and the Raindogs.
Brad Fesmire
An artist and the Artistic Director of Riverzedge Arts, Brad has an MFA in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design and is interested in the intersection of art and social change.
Kevin Gilmore
An interdisciplinary artist, Kevin works as a painter, experimental sound composer, and educator at the Rhode Island School of Design.
Luke Jacob
Lucas Jacob is the Director of Writing, Communication, and Media Literacy at La Jolla Country Day School, in San Diego. His poems, essays, and stories have appeared in more than 70 literary magazines and trade journals, and his most recent book is the poetry collection Sympathetic Beasts (Next Page Press, 2023)
Martha Kuhlman
Martha Kuhlman is Professor of Comparative Literature at Bryant University where she teaches courses on the graphic novel, Central European literature, and Creativity. She also reviews contemporary graphic narratives, translates comics from Czech to English, and is currently enrolled in the Sequential Arts Workshop, an international online school for making comics.
Michelle LeBrun
An award-winning documentary filmmaker, Michelle LeBrun's film, Death: A Love Story, was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the 1999 Sundance Film Festival. It won top awards at several other film festivals, and aired on national PBS and CBC Canada.

Katherine Reaves
After earning degrees in art history and studio art, a term of service for the Peace Corps in Africa, getting married and starting a family, Katherine Reaves picked up a camcorder and found her art form. This led to teaching filmmaking to high school seniors, making films, and a lifelong passion for the power and artistry of digital filmmaking.
Carlton Solomon
Dubbed "The Great Doc P," Carlton Solomon is a pioneering radio personality, D.J. and M.C. A fervent believer in music's power to inspire, he founded SM Enlightenment Radio, championing positivity through every broadcast.
Hananiah Wiggins
Hananiah Wiggins serves as the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Activism Coordinator at The Neutral Zone, a youth-driven teen center in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Crislin Christian-Frazier
Crislin Christian-Frazier is an artist, writer, youth facilitator, operations professional, and 4th-generation North Lawndale, Chicago community member. She founded critical youth media, which focuses on building media literacy and digital storytelling skills in the Chicago's Westside youth, and currently serves as the Operations & Communications Manager at Free Spirit Media in Chicago, which partners with young people to transform media and society.
Eve Kerrigan
Eve Kerrigan is a writer of fiction and personal essays. She is an enthusiast of all things amusing and creative. Eve's short fiction has been broadcast on Public Radio and published in various literary journals.
Jay Primeano
Jay Primiano is an author, poet, lyricist, singer, and sculptor. His novel, “Swim That Rock” was selected as Rhode Island Book of the Year in 2014. , was a finalist for New England Book of the Year and was favorably reviewed by the New York Times. He is a founding member of the Rhodeo Poets, a regular contributor with the Westerly Poets, and a Jamestown, RI resident.
Donald King
Donald King is the Creative Director of King Saint Germain. He is a passionate curator who transforms communities through art, culture, and creative initiatives. He has a track record of inspiring community engagement and activating public and private spaces to serve neighborhoods and cities.
John Kotula
John Kotula is an artist, arts educator, and writer. He is currently writing regularly for Motif Magazine and working on a series of collaborative projects with other artists.
Elizabeth Zimmerman
"Zim" leads bottlerocket design group, a strategic graphic design firm based in Providence with a focus on education, nonprofit, and hospitality clients. In addition, she volunteers her time with 100 Women Who Care RI as their Steering Committee Chair, and she serves on the board of Rectory School in Pomfret, CT as Vice Chair and sits on their Development Committee and Academics, Admissions, and Marketing Committee.

Submissions will be evaluated according to the following criteria

Does the project align with the contest themes, and does the artist statement effectively explain this connection?

How original and creative is the project, and how well does the artist statement describe the creative process?
